Did Edie Sedgwick make her own jewelry?
When I worked on the movie Factory Girl, the wardrobe designer and I researched these earrings to see who made it or where Edie got it. No information was found. I even asked Billy Name (one of the Warhol Factory people) if he could remember anything about this and he said no. I believe that Edie made this herself.
In the 60’s you couldn’t find really long shoulder duster earrings like you have today. I think Edie put these together with 2 necklaces and parts from other pieces of jewelry she had.
To add length Edie took a necklace chain and cut it and put the ends together and added a post ball top. (quite common then) to get the desired effect.
It’s possible she and Andy went to a flea market on 23rd St & 6th Ave in the Chelsea section of N.Y.C.. This was in existence then. They had a lot of Jewelry made in India, I noticed on the original some Indian clamshell beads.
This is my theory and just my opinion. If anyone have more information or thoughts, please let me know. If what I say is true, Edie could have been a good jewelry designer! Link to my Original Butterfly Dangle Earring
