St. Elmo’s Fire Earrings worn by Demi Moore
“I can climb the highest mountain, cross the wildest sea. I can feel St. Elmo’s fire burnin’ in me.” I can still remember a 20-something me driving along the highway, singing this song out loud whenever it came on the car radio – Man in Motion, the theme song from the movie St. Elmo’s Fire, in 1985.
Has it really been 30 years since the Brat Pack emerged in this coming of age movie as a group of friends, just out of college struggling with the responsibilities of adulthood? Yes it has!
It was also 30 years ago that a young Steve Sasco (me) submitted my own design of elegant, pink stone and pearl drop earrings to the movie’s wardrobe department. They were selected and worn by Demi Moore in the movie. The earrings looked stunning on her.
Just like the weather phenomenon known as St. Elmo’s Fire, where there is a gap in electrical charge, like lightning but not quite, and bright but not on fire either, I – like the brat pack – was on my way to achieving my own brand of celebrity by designing jewelry for the stars to wear.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of this Brat Pack classic, I have recreated these lovely, feminine pink and pearl earrings reminiscent of 80s fashion, yet still stylish today.
Thirty years later, I can honestly say that I am still a Man In Motion, and still designing the jewelry to make everyone who wears it feel like a star.
